This workshop ran on Saturday afternoons from March 22 – April 12, 2025. Stay tuned for updates or send an email to express your interest for the next iteration!

This is a pilot workshop series focused on world-building through exploratory art and writing exercises. It will serve as a weekly practice for those who might not work or study in the arts, but are interested in upkeeping (or rediscovering!) their imagination and developing creative habits, ways of thinking, and modes of being.
Drawing from the lessons of geographers, imagineers, futurists, doll-house builders, and more, participants will be guided through inventing an immersive, fictional world of their own to explore. These “small worlds” can be just for fun, a form of self-reflection, or the basis of future creative pursuits– be it a book, a set design, a game, an exhibit, or something else.
By workshop’s end, participants will have engaged with their small worlds through as many senses as possible. They will not only have a familiarity with how it works, who inhabits it, and what goes on there, but also how to wield various mediums in order to bring it to life. Participants may find that some exercises speak to them more than others. Ultimately, they should come away feeling like they understand their ideas and processes a little more for having tried a bit of everything.
This weekly workshop is comprised of four 90-minute in-person sessions over a month with optional take-home exercises.
